Can Acupuncture offer Pain Relief? The National Institutes of Health in the United States officially recognised acupuncture as an effective treatment for osteoarthritis, headaches, low back pain, fibromyalgia, menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, myofascial pain, neck pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Modern medical research has discovered that pain signals are transmitted by specialised nervous system cells called nerve receptors. These cells respond to injury, inflammation or tissue damage. The signals travel by electrical and chemical means, from receptors through sensory neurons to the spinal cord and then through interneurons in the spinal cord to the brain, where they are finally interpreted as pain. In terms of pain control, the effects of Acupuncture treatment include:
To relieve pain completely, or give as much relief as possible

How can Acupuncture help Fertility Treatments? Many healthy couples find they have unknown barriers to becoming pregnant
that are beyond the scope of western medicine. These are often undiagnosed or
overlooked, since lab results can be misleading.
At Acupuncture Cork, I use acupuncture, herbs and dietary changes to re-balance the body, and restore it to health and vitality.
Even if you have no physical evidence that would indicate infertility, the
body must work together in balance. Undiagnosed food sensitivities, particularly

There are many ways to deal with stress. Here is how acupuncture, a healthy lifestyle and Tai Chi can help. Moderation is essential in whatever activity we are involved in; it is the extremes of excess and abstinence that are frequently associated with health – so, RELAX.
It is commonly recognized that our lifestyle affects our ability to be healthy. In the West, people live at a fast pace with little time for rest and relaxation. Stress is seen as one of the most powerful problems we have to deal with in the modern world; long-term exposure to high stress levels and emotional disturbances has a powerful effect on us.
Chinese medicine takes the view that it is not necessarily the level of stress that is the problem, though of course this is relevant; more importantly, it is how we react to the world we live in that can be the problem. Stress is like an indication that some level of activity is leading to ill-health – stress is like a red warning light in a car. Stress will also manifest as low energy. It will also affect the sleep.
To effectively deal with stress, it is important a) to recognize the external cause and take steps to eliminate or reduce the cause through life-style changes, and b) to deal with the effects of stress through self-help.

What to expect during an acupuncture appointment On your first visit, you will have a consultation regarding the reason for your visit. You will be asked about your medical history, and anything which may be related to the condition you are presenting with. You will have the opportunity to discuss any concerns and to ask questions. Based on the diagnosis, a treatment plan will be recommended. After the consultation, you will receive treatment in the same visit.
During the treatment, you may feel relaxed and find yourself drifting off. This is perfectly fine. Sometimes tranquil music is played to help with relaxation. I usually come back in a few times to make sure everything is ok.
People find acupuncture very relaxing. The soothing quiet is a very precious factor of the acupuncture treatment in today’s rushed and busy lifestyle. Feel free to discuss anything concerning your progress during the consultation or after the session, but it is best for you and your treatment if the calm and tranquility is preserved. Remember, it usually takes more than one treatment to obtain the results you are looking for. Give it time. Especially combined with some lifestyle changes, and specific exercises, remarkable results can be obtained.

Tai Chi and the Tao, or how putting the philosophy of Tai Chi in to action can bring us greater health and happiness. Tai Chi is a practice of “The Way.” Way means of The Tao and signifies a path or river. Taoism is not a religion. It is a “Way” of life. The Tao is the natural order of things. It is a force that flows through every living and sentient object, as well as through the entire universe. When the Tao is in balance it is possible to find perfect happiness. Taoism is a philosophy and the practice of Tai Chi means putting this philosophy in to action. Although the word path can signify a destination, actually we have already arrived, and the daily practice of Tai Chi can help us realise this. As Lao Tzu said; A good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.
